Prevention Is Everything: See the Threat, and Avoid It

Many people, unfortunately, respond to a coyote attack by building a fence, contacting the police department, and vowing that it will never happen again.

Unfortunately for their pet, it’s a little too late. As is with most other types of emergencies, prevention is much better than response.

So how do you know that there is a coyote problem in your neighborhood so that you can prevent an incident?

First off, you can just assume that there are coyotes in your neighborhood because, in most neighborhoods in North America, there are.

But you can also communicate with your neighbors. Odds are before a coyote takes one of your pets it will have taken other pets in your extended neighborhood. So, get out there, talk to folks and ask questions. Find out if anyone else in the surrounding area has seen coyotes or been impacted by them. This is what you might call a “get a clue” opportunity.

Unfortunately, it is a common human tendency to put things off until it is too late. So, for the sake of your pet, do your homework now to determine if there are coyotes in your neighborhood and take preventative steps to avoid an incident. Use common sense, be smart, and be coyote proof.
