Using Cameras for Coyote Surveillance
Some people may not even be aware that there are coyotes in their neighborhood, but not knowing doesn’t change that fact that they are there, nor will it keep your family and your pets safe. Ignorance is no defense.
In fact, it might cause you to become too lackadaisical, thinking “Hey, I haven’t seen a coyote around here in years – there’s probably no risk whatsoever.” Well, not to make you paranoid, but just because you can’t see them, doesn’t mean they’re not there.
Chances are, coyotes are in your neighborhood. But if you are from Missouri, or just naturally need to be shown before you believe, you will need to set up some kind of a camera.
Your home security camera may do a fine job. If you are looking for something a little more portable, you might consider getting a trail camera, commonly referred to as a “trail cam”. These things are portable, battery-operated, and can be set up just about any place. Depending on your budget and how many bells and whistles you want, you can spend well under $100 and get a pretty decent trail cam.
Visit the Resources tab on our website for recommendations and links to quality trail cams you can use as “extra eyes” in your yard to find out if you have coyotes. Identifying the risk is a first and very important step toward making your yard and neighborhood, coyote proof.
